Who We Are

Breaking Ground for the PPA

Prior to the emergence of racquetball in 1969, the Pacific Paddleball Association (PPA) was established in 1967 by paddleball athletes (Drs. Jim Skidmore, Charles Hanna, Jerry Kobernick, Bud Muelhleisen, and Carl Loveday, Kim Hill, and Al Chamberlin) who sought to create and enjoy a private indoor paddleball club in San Diego. Once built, the PPA quickly became a pivotal place for the fledging sport of racquetball, attracting virtually all of the nation’s top players, turning San Diego into the “Mecca of Racquetball.”

For decades, the PPA has been a hub for legendary players throughout their careers, and continues to be a historic and famous location among today’s leading racquetball and paddleball athletes and their supporters.

The PPA now aspires to expand the multi-sports club to accommodate pickleball, future tournaments and more.
